Treehouse of Horror

Click the flyer above for our playlist recapping our favorite new October tracks, just in time for all those Halloween parties. This month features a can’t-miss track from Thief’s debut EP, plus some strong returns to form from Best Coast, Poliça, Cults, RJD2, Sleigh Bells, and more!
If that’s not enough to get your spook on, check out the video below from LA duo Evensong. They set their stripped down take on Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For A Film)” to footage from the 1922 silent horror classic “Nosferatu” (which yes, is now public domain).

This September we not only say goodbye to summer but also one of the most amazing TV shows in recent memory, AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” which concluded last night (no spoilers here).

It also marks the 12th monthly mix we’ve put out, and more or less the 1 year mark since Woofer Music & Sound launched publicly. In that time span we’ve supplied the audio for Gatorade, Scion, and a slew of other commercial, TV, and film projects. We’d love to hear from you, either just to catch up, talk shop, or maybe hear how one of these mixes made your day a little more enjoyable.

BONUS:
Of the many classic  “Breaking Bad” montages, this one is still our favorite. Beyond the stellar writing and acting, the show wows in all aspects of production and post: directing, cinematography, editing, etc. But really, Thomas Golubić’s unearthing of the forgetting 1969 gem “Crystal Blue Persuasion” is what take it to another level. Music supervision at it’s best!

Local Natives @ 72andSunny

Wednesday we were treated to another amazing concert at 72andSunny’s new outdoor space across from their offices in Playa Vista. The striking bandshell provided a unique backdrop as LA indie-band-done-good Local Natives played a stripped down set to an admiring crowd of advertising and music industry peeps. Of course, the free beer, setting sun, food trucks, cozy grass slope, and arguably LA’s best weather in weeks didn’t hurt the mood, either. Not to take away from the performance — the group nailed their 3-part vocal harmonies and kept their acoustic arrangements lively, driven by the combined percussion of lead singer Kelcey Ayer and drummer Matt Frazier.

All in all it was a relaxing, enjoyable evening that almost made it seem like it was still mid-summer and not in fact Hump Day a week past Labor Day. So far it’s been 2 for 2 for outdoor parties at 72andSunny’s new digs at the renovated Howard Hughes campus. Looking forward to keeping the streak alive at the next event.

Happy August

Between wrapping up a few projects and some well earned vacations, we’re certainly enjoying the dog days of summer over here at Woofer. If you haven’t had some R&R yet, hopefully you’ve got something fun planned for the holiday weekend.
With that in mind, here’s our latest selection of tunes from new releases (just click the image above), including tracks from Of Montreal, A$AP Ferg, White Denim, and a track by Australian group The Preatures that we just can’t get enough of (video below):

Give me liberty or give me mix!

The Summer is winding down but this year’s music doesn’t show any signs of letting up! July presented a plethora of options for the monthly Woofer mix but some how we narrowed it down in time. Whether your into EDM, punk rock or psych-folk July has a little something for everyone!
So sit back, relax, take another sip of that mint julep and enjoy.

Quadrophilia

One of our favorite summer concerts series, Saturdays Off the 405, kicks off the 2013 season this weekend with Quadron doing a free outdoor performance on the gorgeous Getty Center grounds. The soulful Danish duo consists of singer Coco O (who also appears on the star-studded Great Gatsby soundtrack) and musician/producer Robin Hannibal. It’s good to see that the recent success of Hannibal’s other sultry outfit Rhye hasn’t kept him from churning out new Quadron material.

Check out the video for their new single “Hey Love” below:

The Getty event officially runs from 6 – 9pm, but the popularity of these free concerts often results in the the museum hitting max capacity quite early. Expect (more than the usual LA) heavy traffic on the nearby freeway and Sepulveda pass and plan to arrive well before 6pm if you want to make the cut. Between the music, the view (the architecture, the sunset, the gardens, hell even the 405 looks pretty riding the tram up the ridge to the museum), and the carefree vibe these evenings are not to be missed, especially if you have any out-of-towners visiting.

Mark your calendar for next month’s concert with live production wunderkind Robert Delong playing on Sat 6/15 as well!

Noisey Premiers “Light Up Gold Road Trip”

Today Noisey premiered a documentary by Andy Capper (The Vice Guide To Liberia, Swansea Love Story, Lil Bub & Friendz, REINCARNATED, and music videos for A$AP Rocky, Vybz Kartel, Black Lips, and Snoop Lion) called “Light Up Gold Road Trip”.

The doc is about up-and-coming band Parquet Courts and Cappers three week stent with them on the road during their transition from relative obscurity to one of the most swooned over “new” acts of the first half of 2013.

“When bassist Sean Yeaton left his job and the safety of a desk job for the wild life of a performing minstrel, I decided to get a camera and follow him on the first three weeks of his new life,” says Capper. “We went from Mexico to Texas and London in a very short time period for the amount of great moments we had together. I love Sean and his band – Austin, Andrew and Max – and I hope that this is reflected in this short film that we made together.”

Also, the band has added even more dates to an already massive US tour this summer. See dates below, new dates are bolded.
